• One of major concepts and missions of Faculty medicine and health sciences, University of Gadarif is to participate in planning and solving of community-related health problems at the local and regional level. Sudan as a sub-Saharan area has its characteristic endemic diseases. Gadarif state, however, is one of the most important states in Sudan that plays a great role in the economic and agricultural sectors.
  • Gadarif state covers an area of 75.000 Km2 and lies at eastern Sudan region between latitude 14-16 and longitude 33-36.  It borders Khartoum state at the North, Sennar state at the south, Kassala state & Ethiopia at the East & Gezira state at the west .The state contains ten localities.
  • The population of the state estimated at 1,727,401; which consists of most Sudanese tribes. State climate is poor savannah in all parts. The soil is clay & muddy, and rainfall average is 612 /mm. In addition, there are many mountains & forests scattered throughout the state. Many rivers pass through the state (i.e. Atbra, Elrahad, Dindir, Saitit & Basalam).
  • Gadarif State harbors many endemic diseases; which inflict various parts of the state especially Alrahad, Atbra river area and other rural areas. Some diseases co-exist with other like e.eg. Kala-azar with tuberculosis and HIV.
